According to a new report, another member of the AEW roster may be “done” with the company, at least for a while.
In early September, it was reported that Malakai Black had been granted a conditional release from AEW. It was noted at the time that Black’s desire to leave came from concerns about his mental health and creative direction.
Following a match at Prestige Perseverance on September 17th, the star released a lengthy statement on Instagram where he confirmed he had asked to leave the company.
Now, it seems another member of The House of Black could be done with the company. Following his match at a Fight Life Pro Wrestling event, Buddy Matthews acknowledged recent “issues” in the faction before saying he needs to “go away for a while”.
Buddy Matthews then echoed Malakai Black’s own recent promo, saying he needs to “recalibrate” and that it isn’t goodbye, but rather “see you later”.
“Unfortunately, tonight, I’m going to be the bearer of some unfortunate news. As everyone knows, the House of Black has had some issues lately.
“As all the members of the house, I’m speaking for them all, we want to thank you all for being members of the house.
“Unfortunately, I, like some of the other members, need to go away for a while. I need to recalibrate. I need to figure out some things. As my brother Malakai once said, this isn’t goodbye, this is see you later.”
Now, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful has reported that Matthews may be done with AEW “for a while”.

Buddy Matthews made his AEW debut on the February 23rd edition of Dynamite and immediately joined the House of Black in their feud against Death Triangle.
Following the departure of Malakai Black from the company, House of Black has continued with Buddy Matthews and Brody King as a tag team with Julia Hart as their manager.
On the most recent episode of Rampage, the duo faced Sting & Darby Allin. As Matthews was about to hit Sting with a baseball bat, Japanese legend The Great Muta made the save, spitting green mist in his face before The Icon delivered a Scorpion Death Drop.
