According to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE nixed an Angel Garza Royal Rumble comedy spot at the last minute.
The 2021 Men’s Royal Rumble Match turned out to be a memorable affair with the return of several WWE legends, the call-up of NXT Superstar Damian Priest, the involvement of recording artist Bad Bunny and the victory Edge eleven years to the day after he triumphed in the 2010 thirty man affray.
However, as per Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the bout could have seen another memorable moment occur had it not been pulled at the eleventh hour.
Subsequent to the report, former WWE 24/7 Champion, Angel Garza was due to enter at number twenty, rip off his pants and then be eliminated immediately giving Bushwhacker Luke a run for his money where fleeting Royal Rumble times are concerned. However, Garza was replaced by Otis who himself was eliminated in just fifty-three seconds by King Corbin.
“Another late change was Otis replacing Angel Garza. Otis had been advertised. Garza was there and was supposed to come in, do a comedy spot tearing off his pants, and then get eliminated right away. At the last minute, Otis was put back in, in the spot Garza was in. Trent Baretta told a story similar on Twitter that day saying that one year he was supposed to be in. He was at the meeting waiting to find out his spot and what he was supposed to do. Then they went through the match and nobody brought him up and he realized that he had been pulled from the match.”
Away from handing out roses backstage and securing a New Year’s Eve WWE 24/7 Championship victory, Angel Garza has done nothing in way of storylines on WWE television since his partnership with Andrade dissolved in 2020 despite being heavily speculated for a role alongside a returning Eva Marie.
