Mexican sensation, Angel Garza, saw in the New Year in style when he defeated R-Truth to capture the WWE 24/7 Championship.
The title change occurred not in the ring, nor in some amusing backstage segment as has been the common backdrop for the title’s lineage, but at a WWE New Year’s Eve party which was held on the popular app, TikTok.
Following his victory, Garza took to social media to celebrate his achievement:
“GOLD BABY?????? Por segundo año consecutivo terminó el año con ORO ???? For second year in a row I end with GOLD ???? @RonKill’ngs I’ll show you how to treat a BABY”
GOLD BABY 😎😎😎
Por segundo año consecutivo terminó el año con ORO 🤩🤩

The loss sets a precedent for R-Truth, who saw in the New Year without gold for a second annum in a row. Last year, the star lost his prize to Mojo Rawley at FOX’s New Year’s Eve with Steve Harvey, though on that occasion he regained the strap the same night.
The victory marks only Garza’s second championship reign in WWE after serving as NXT Cruiserweight Champion from December 11, 2019, to January 25, 2020, when he lost the title to Jordan Devlin at WWE Worlds Collide in a Fatal 4-Way Match.
Since breaking away from tag team partner, Andrade, Angel Garza has been looking for a foothold on Monday Night Raw. In recent weeks, he has been the focus of backstage vignettes where he offers a solitary rose to the company’s female performers. His actions have seen him closely linked with Eva Marie who has been rumoured to return.
Between the ropes, Garza has made fleeting appearances on the red brand and has been more of a mainstay on WWE Main Event where he’s locked horns with the likes of Keith Lee, Drew Gulak and Akira Tozawa to name but a few.
