WWE Hall Of Famer Makes Surprise NXT Appearance To Announce Title Match

NXT 2.0

WWE Hall of Famer Alundra Blayze made a surprise appearance on NXT 2.0 to address the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship situation.

At Great American Bash on July 5th, Cora Jade and Roxanne Perez made history when they defeated Toxic Attraction to become the youngest tag team to win the NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions.

However, their celebration was short-lived as Cora Jade shocked the world when it was revealed that she had attacked her best friend and tag team partner Roxanne Perez just one week later. Earlier in the night, Perez was shown lying in the parking lot after a vicious attack, and while Jade tried to cast suspicion on Toxic Attraction ahead of Perez’s title match with Mandy Rose, she was revealed to be the real attacker as she believed Roxanne had been “selfish.”

Last week, Cora Jade escalated the situation when she declared that the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships were meaningless due to Roxanne’s actions, and she made good on her word by throwing her title belt in the trash, effectively vacating it. This left Roxanne Perez’s status as champion in limbo, as WWE.com still listed her as a champion alongside Vacant instead of Jade.

Addressing the situation backstage with Mackenzie Mitchell on the latest episode, Perez said that if Cora wants to throw away their friendship, that’s fine – but she won’t stand for having the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship thrown in the trash because the titles deserve respect. Luckily, she said, someone else agrees with her.

This brought out WWE Hall of Famer Alundra Blayze, who famously threw the WWF Women’s Championship into the trash on WCW television in December of 1995 when she returned to the company as Madusa. She’d been fired from the WWE earlier that month due to budget cuts, and the company had failed to take into account that she was still the reigning champion at the time. The title remained vacant until 1998.

Alundra Blayze recalled throwing her title in the trash over 25 years ago, and said that it took a long time to crown a new champion – but that wouldn’t be the case here in NXT. She declared that on next week’s episode, four teams will face off in a fatal four way elimination match with the winners being crowned the new champions.

Roxanne Perez removed Cora Jade’s belt from the trash and agreed that the titles should be worn by two women who are proud to wear them and proud to defend them, seemingly vacating her title as she won’t be participating next week.

Soon after, it was announced that the following teams will be involved in next week’s bout:

  • Toxic Attraction (Gigi Dolin & Jacy Jayne)
  • Katana Chance & Kayden Carter
  • Diamond Mine (Ivy Nile & Tatum Paxley)
  • Yulisa Leon & Valentina Feroz

At the end of the episode, Alundra Blayze was confronted by former champions Toxic Attraction, who demanded that she give them the titles. However, the WWE Hall of Famer was firm, and said that next week they’ll have to fight for the titles before yanking them away from the enraged trio.
