‘Captain Charisma’ Christian has updated fans on his plans for the future and whether or not he will return to the squared circle in either a full or part-time capacity.
In 2020, the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion orated that he was done with professional wrestling with zero chance of him returning to the ring in the future. His comments came after the very brief dalliance with Randy Orton in June which was the first time he had entered active competition since 2014.
At the Royal Rumble on January 31, 2021, Christian made a shock return to the company when he entered at number 24 and proved to be more than just a novelty act, lasting 18:12 before being returned to the locker room by a returning Seth Rollins.
Following his participation in the 30-Man Royal Rumble Match, Christian gave an interview to WWE Network about where he goes from here and whether or not we’ll be seeing him compete again:
“It was surreal [to be in the ring after 7 years] to be honest with you. I didn’t know what to expect. You know its funny, everybody has a plan until you get hit. And that’s exactly what happened to me. I got hit once and I was like, ‘ok, its on.’ This is what I was born to do, so I felt like I was home.
All I was ever promised was one more match. That could be it.”
For all the pomp and circumstance surrounding such a momentous return, the one real tragedy is that should January 31 have been the last time we saw the legend in the ring then there were no fans present to show him our love and appreciation.
