Through the years, Superstar after Superstar has expressed their gratitude and thanks to the late, great, Dusty Rhodes, and now Alex Riley has added himself to that list.
Alex Riley began his journey to WWE’s main roster by joining Florida Championship Wrestling in 2007. The promotion served as a key developmental territory for WWE from 2007 to 2012. At one time or another the territory would be home to the likes of Roman Reigns, Daniel Bryan and Drew McIntyre. FCW as it was more commonly known, eventually became the now famed NXT brand in August 2012.
Appearing in FCW meant that Riley would work under the guiding hand of Dusty Rhodes.
During an interview with Danial Ali From The DropKick Podcast, Riley reflected on his relationship with the American Dream.
Dusty Rhodes was like a father figure to me in my mind. I have a tendency to be hard on myself right.”
“He helped advance it real quick right so when it comes to FCW and he starts what’s called promo class and that’s one of the greatest experiences I’ve ever had in my life that might have created every piece of confidence I am carrying with me right now. I did a one-minute promo and he pulled me aside and he goes you’re my guy.”
During his time with WWE, Riley appeared extensively with The Miz. Riley went on to lift the lid on the pair’s relationship, calling Miz “massively talented” and “one the best human beings I’ve ever met.”
Riley isn’t the only WWE Superstar to have spoken warmly about Rhodes in recent months. Recalling her time working with ‘The Dream,’ Bayley detailed how Rhodes had been instrumental in her early career.
