A new report seemingly clears up some of the rumours surrounding Aleister Black and his future plans following his stunning release from WWE.
Black was released from his WWE contract along with five of his colleagues on the 2nd of June. Former WWE Universal Champion Braun Strowman, Lana, Buddy Murphy, Ruby Riott, and NXT star Santana Garrett were also let go from the company. WWE’s Head Of Talent Relations had explained to those still on the roster that these cuts were made for budget reasons.
The releases also came less than two months after the company released another slew of talents including former NXT Champion Samoa Joe, Mickie James, and The IIconics. NXT also had somewhat of a roster clearout in May with controversial former NXT North American Champion Velveteen Dream the highest-profile name let go then.
Now Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has reported in his latest Newsletter that although far from a done deal, the expectation is Aleister Black is headed to All Elite Wrestling. The report also states that although no deal can be done officially until the 31st of August because of Black’s ninety-day non-compete clause it is the most likely destination for the man now known as Tommy End.
Meltzer’s report does also touch on the rumours circulating about Black possibly making a sensational return to WWE. Stories have swirled about some in the company feeling that his loss was a mistake and he could be courted to make a return.
Many fans on social media had clamoured to see Black join The Dark Order as the character he was portraying on SmackDown up until his release reminded many of the group’s unholy beginnings in AEW. One member of that group though has dismissed the idea of the group getting a new leader with John Silver saying they already had the best in the late Brodie Lee.
