This will not be the first foray the Mexican star has made into the world of MMA. He was a regular competitor in Mexico and Japan between 2000-2010 with a record of 9 wins and 6 losses.
Del Rio’s most recent fight took place in 2019 when he clashed with UFC veteran Tito Ortiz in a catchweight fight. Del Rio was defeated by the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion when he was forced to submit to a rear-naked choke in the first round.
Following runs with AAA and CMLL in Mexico, Alberto Del Rio signed with WWE in 2009 and made an impressive debut on the August 20th, 2010 episode of SmackDown which saw him defeat Rey Mysterio.
He went on to have a highly successful career in the company, highlighted by multiple WWE and World Championship reigns as well as winning the 2011 Royal Rumble which featured 40 Superstars.
