Alberto Del Rio was once a highly pushed star in WWE. He signed with them in 2009 and the run concluded in 2016. However, in those five years, Del Rio had built himself an impeccable resume where he was a two-time WWE Champion and World Heavyweight Champion.
He feuded with the best, including John Cena, CM Punk, Edge (aka Cope), Rey Mysterio, and many more. Alberto Del Rio was marred by personal controversies that seemingly hampered his positioning with WWE as of late.
Speaking on the Grilling JR podcast, WWE veteran Jim Ross discussed Alberto Del Rio’s situation and was convinced that a return to the global juggernaut was only a matter of time.
“It wouldn’t surprise me. He’s a very good talent. He has a great look. Being bilingual is another positive selling point. His issues are his reliability because of what you [host Conrad Thompson] already talked about. There’s issues there. He’s outspoken. There’s nothing wrong with being outspoken, that’s a fact, but sometimes his timing isn’t as good as one would ideally like. All that takes is communication and management.”(H/T Sportskeeda)
There Was A Surge In Chants For Alberto Del Rio At Triplemania Under WWE’s Regime
Alberto Del Rio competed on TNA and, most notably, Lucha Libre AAA after his WWE departure. After WWE acquired Lucha Libre AAA, there was plenty of speculation on his return being closer than ever. His last match on the promotion took place in July 2025, when Del Rio lost a ‘Loser Leaves Town’ match against El Mesías.
At Triplemania, chants for the former World Heavyweight Champion echoed in the arena and were acknowledged by Rey Mysterio.

There have been no reports or updates on communication between Alberto Del Rio and WWE. If history has been any indication, all it takes is a few chants from the WWE crowd to put the motion in full swing for an impending return.
