AJ Styles has addressed the use of the Styles Clash by other wrestlers following on from a recent match that took place on AEW Dynamite.
Opening the 250th episode of the show, Will Ospreay and MJF went through a 1-hour war that saw MJF defeat The Ariel Assassin and become the new International Champion in what was only Ospreay’s second loss since joining AEW full-time.
As is the case with Ospreay’s matches, the contest saw multiple high spots, big moves and feats of athleticism, with one move in particular dividing fans’ opinion. Ospreay hit 2 Styles Clashes on MJF during the match with neither being able to put away the former World Champion. With the Superkick and the Canadian Destroyer now seen as transitional moves instead of devastating finishers, fans have become fearful that the Styles Clash may be the next move to be a part of that category.
Reacting to the discourse on social media, The Phenomenal One stated that he is not concerned by Ospreay using the move and is flattered by the reference
Why do you think it bothers me that someone else is doing my move? We all do it. Its wrestling! I think if nothing else, it shows appreciation
MJF also paid homage to one of his mentors in the match as he hit a Cross Rhodes onto Ospreay, a reference to Cody Rhodes.
Recently, AJ Styles said that he may have wrestled for the last time in Japan.
AJ Styles Takes Issue With Star Ratings
In another instance of a contracted WWE star competing in another promotion, Styles recently competed for Pro Wrestling NOAH and was victorious in his match against Naomichi Marufuji in Tokyo, Japan. Noting that a lot of Japanese matches get higher star ratings, AJ Styles declared that those who give the ratings “Don’t really matter.” In what was a reference to Dave Meltzer, the writer for the Wrestling Observer Newsletter responded.
