Referee Waves Off Match, AJ Styles Injured

According to fans at the event, Styles performed a spot which involved him going over the top rope. Once he landed outside the ring Styles was seen grabbing his left leg. With the star down, the referee threw up the ‘X’ symbol to signal an injury. After being attended to at ringside, Styles was helped to his feet by Karl Anderson before making his way backstage. Styles appeared to be unable to move under his own steam.

Despite his all-action in-ring style, AJ Styles has had an injury free few years since missing time in early 2020 with a shoulder injury. In total the former World Champion has wrestled 71 times in 2022.

Throughout much of 2022 AJ Styles has been at odds with Judgment Day. The Phenomenal One faced Edge at WrestleMania 38 and was defeated thanks to interference from Damian Priest. Since then Styles has battled all members of the group, while turning down an invitation to join Finn Balor and co ahead of Survivor Series. This saw him reunite with Gallows and Anderson on Raw who were returning to WWE. Styles’ most recent match on the red brand saw him lose out to Sami Zayn on December 19th.

WWE have had an unlucky spell with injuries at lives events with Kevin Owens sustaining a knee injury in the run up to Survivor Series in November. Although he was eventually fit enough to take his place in the main event, Owens missed a number of matches as the Premium Live Event plans hung in the balance.
