AJ Styles brilliantly paid tribute to WWE Hall of Famer Eddie Guerrero at a recent WWE live event at Madison Square Garden.
While WWE’s traditional Boxing Day show was beset by last minute changes and upheaval, AJ Styles certainly did his best to make sure that those in attendance went home suitably entertained.
At the ‘World’s Most Famous Arena,’ Styles clashed with his now former tag team partner Omos. With Styles at a clear size and power disadvantage, the former World Champion decided to channel his inner Eddie Guerrero in order to gain victory.
With the referee distracted in the corner fixing the turnbuckle, Styles slid into the ring with a steel chair and proceeded to get in a couple of shots on the colossus. When the blows failed to fell the giant, Styles threw the chair at Omos and himself to the floor. As the referee turned back to the action, Omos was holding the chair with Styles lying prone on the mat. Presuming it was Omos who had used the chair, the referee declared AJ Styles the winner by disqualification.
The sequence was of course made famous by Eddie Guerrero during his time in WWE as he lied, cheated and stole his way into the hearts of fans around the world.

On the December 20th episode of Monday Night Raw the union between AJ Styles and Omos came to a brutal end.
The former Tag Champions were the latest guests on Miz TV, with AJ Styles determined to present a united front, but The Miz had other ideas. After Styles talked up his protégé and the partnership, Miz said that the giant stood between the two men had confided in him that he was less than happy in his role.
Miz continued to stir the pot, taking shots at Styles for not arriving in WWE until 15 years into his career. Just as it looked like Omos was going to talk, the segment was interrupted by The Mysterios setting up a tag team match.
During the bout, Styles tried to tag Omos in, but the giant turned away, allowing Rey Mysterio to roll the former World Champion. After the match, Styles finally lost it, calling Omos a piece of trash causing the dissention to get physical. Styles threw all he could at his now-former partner, before lining up a Phenomenal Forearm. However, Omos grabbed Styles from the top rope, delivering a press slam.
It has since been reported that WWE has “significant plans” for the pair heading into 2022.
