AJ Styles Vs. Edge Reportedly Pitched For WrestleMania 38

A marquee WrestleMania 38 clash between AJ Styles and Edge is reportedly set in stone.

WWE’s WrestleMania will be held on 2 and 3 April this year, with two matches so far scheduled; Brock Lesnar challenging Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship, and Ronda Rousey doing the same for Charlotte Flair’s SmackDown Women’s Championship.

A singles bout between AJ Styles and Edge is reportedly also due to take place, as Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp wrote during a text-based Q&A session. Asked by Matthew Hamm, Sapp simply replied “it’s been pitched”. No further details are yet known regarding the potential bout.

Thus far, Styles and Edge’s interactions have been limited, though the former did receive a Spear from “The Rated R Superstar” in both the 2020 and 2021 Royal Rumble matches. However, AJ Styles has been quite vocal about wanting to face the Hall of Famer, as he told Ryan Satin on the Out Of Character podcast (h/t Sportskeeda):

“Everybody has in mind the same guy that I do – Edge. And he has the same thing. Like we have the same idea. Will it happen? That’s not up to us. So, we’ll do what’s asked of us. We just hope we get the opportunity before both of us retire.”

As it currently stands, AJ Styles is due to enter the Elimination Chamber match on 19 February alongside Brock Lesnar, Austin Theory, Seth “Freakin” Rollins, Riddle, and the defending WWE Champion, Bobby Lashley, meaning that Styles vs. Edge could be for the WWE Championship.

Similarly, the United States Championship could be contested between the two, with Styles due to challenge Damian Priest for the strap on the 14 February Raw episode.
