AJ Lee has revealed that she has had numerous opportunities to return to the ring but has never felt ready.
Ever since CM Punk returned to the ring in August 2021, speculation has continued to run as to whether he wife and former WWE Superstar AJ Lee will follow suit.
A few months after Punk’s return it was confirmed that Lee was also making something of a comeback as she was named Executive Producer and colour commentator for the rebooted Women Of Wrestling promotion. New WOW episodes are set to premiere in Autumn 2022.
Appearing on the Wrestling with Freddie podcast, with Freddie Prinze Jr, Lee addressed her absence from the ring. The former Divas Champion revealed that she has had opportunities to return to the ring but has never been ready.
“Wrestling opportunities have popped up over the years and I’ve never been ready for that. I’m not sure if physically, the fire is there, but the art of it has always been there. When I was a fan, the women were my favourite part of the show and I would skip the guys matches to watch the ladies,”
AJ Lee last competed in the wrestling ring in March 2015 when she teamed with Naomi and Paige to defeat Natalya and The Bella Twins. At one point Lee had been the longest reigning WWE Divas Champion in history before hanging up her Converse.
Speaking in August 2021, AEW Women’s World Champion Britt Baker said that she would love to see the star wrestle in AEW. Baker revealed that she has always been a big fan of Lee, adding that her ‘Black Widow’ finisher was one of the first moves she asked her wrestling trainer to teach her.
