After AJ Lee, WWE fans could see more surprises in the future.

Wrestling fans were treated to a major surprise on the September 5, 2025, episode of WWE SmackDown after AJ Lee returned after initially retiring in April 2015. During her return, she aided fellow superstar and real-life husband CM Punk to attack Becky Lynch, who then retreated with Seth Rollins at the end of the show. However, it seems like this is just the beginning of the company’s surprises.

After AJ Lee’s WWE SmackDown return, Bodyslam.Net’s Cory Hays posted on X (Twitter) that more surprises are on the horizon. However, he didn’t reveal any names or any other details regarding the matter.

Several current WWE Superstars are out of action due to various reasons. Former Women’s World Champion Naomi is currently pregnant. Meanwhile, Liv Morgan still has a few months left to recover from a shoulder injury she sustained in June. With this in mind, it’s safe to say they aren’t the superstars being referred.

It’s possible Ilja Dragunov, who last wrestled in September last year after tearing his ACL, could be making his return soon, after reports indicated that he was already cleared to do so. Another superstar reportedly cleared to return to action is Bianca Belair, who injured her finger at WrestleMania 41 but has returned sporadically.

Outside WWE, there are also rumors that former superstar and current AEW star Chris Jericho might be returning to the Stamford-based promotion.

Several Wrestling Names Showed Excitement Over AJ Lee’s WWE Return

AJ Lee’s return didn’t just get wrestling fans talking, but the actual wrestlers themselves also expressed their excitement over the occasion.

There was former WWE star Saraya, who wrestled in the Stamford-based promotion as Paige and was Lee’s on-screen “frenemy,” expressed that her heart was full after watching her “sister” return, encouraging AJ to show the world why she is considered the best.

AJ Lee and CM Punk’s so-called “daughters,” Roxanne Perez and Elayna Black (fka Cora Jade), also shared their enthusiasm upon seeing the comeback. Roxanne expressed excitement upon seeing “mommy” come home, while the former superstar said that everything in the world was right.
