AEW's Ricochet Names The Academy Award Winner Who Inspired His Career

Ricochet named the Academy Award-winning legendary action movie star who inspired his wrestling career.

In a recent interview on “The Masked Man Show,” AEW’s Ricochet unveiled an unexpected source of inspiration for his high-flying wrestling style: legendary action movie star and Academy Award winner, Jackie Chan. The former WWE Superstar shared insights into the diverse influences that shaped his unique approach to professional wrestling.

One of my biggest inspirations in life is Jackie Chan,

Ricochet revealed, drawing a surprising parallel between the martial arts film icon and his in-ring persona. He elaborated on how Chan’s influence translated to his wrestling style, stating:

I’m not the biggest guy in the world. So, like, it’s not like I can be like [Powerhouse] Hobbs, or I could be somebody like a Bobby Lashley, that’s going to come and destroy people. So I kind of have to do flips and tricks and be a little Jackie Chan-esque with my offence.

Ricochet’s admiration for Chan’s innovative action sequences and physical comedy clearly influenced his approach to creating spectacular moments in the wrestling ring.

But it’s just something I’ve always been able to do, so if you can add that into this, and make a spectacle of it, then, yeah, you’ve got to,

he added, highlighting his commitment to entertaining audiences through his unique skill set. While Chan stands out as a non-wrestling inspiration, Ricochet also acknowledged several wrestling legends who shaped his career.

He cited Rey Mysterio, the WCW cruiserweights, Jushin Thunder Liger, and Tiger Mask from NJPW as significant influences. Additionally, he mentioned early independent standouts like AJ Styles, Matt Sydal, Jack Evans, and The Amazing Red as wrestlers who inspired his high-flying style.

What Did Ricochet Say About His Goals In AEW?

Ricochet said that he is going to climb in AEW to prove he is the main guy, he cited inspiration for his character that he has taken from anime that the characters he was inspired by all had to climb to the top of the mountain.

Ricochet recently took a shot at Will Ospreay ahead of the upcoming AEW Dynamite Grand Slam.
