AEW’s Chris Jericho Files For New Trademark

Chris Jericho Defends AEW's Future Amid Criticisms

AEW veteran Chris Jericho has filed for a new trademark.

A part of the All Elite Wrestling roster since 2019, Jericho has evolved himself into one of the most popular stars in the industry. The inaugural AEW World Champion, Jericho, defeated Mark Briscoe a few months ago to win the ROH World Champion. A part of several factions and gimmicks throughout his time at Tony Khan’s promotion, Jericho has currently embraced his ‘Learning Tree’ character.

On 25th February, Jericho filed to trademark a vital part of his ‘Learning Tree’ gimmick, “The HI Spot” move, which he recently debuted against Bandido during the February 22nd episode of Collision.

The trademark description reads:

“Entertainment in the nature of wrestling contests; Providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibits and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, live appearances by a professional wrestler and sports entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, televised appearances by a professional wrestler and sports entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, personal appearances by a professional wrestler and sports entertainer; Providing online interviews featuring professional wrestler and sports entertainer in the field of professional wrestling and sports entertainment for entertainment purposes.”

On the 22nd February episode, he retained his ROH World title against Bandido, and first performed the ‘HI Spot’. Mid-way through the bout, Jericho performed a headscissors on his opponent, but stopped on top of him, and waved to the crowd yelling his catchphrase: “Hi guys!”

Soon, Tony Schiavone explained that Y2J’s move was ‘The Hi Spot’, which was about the ‘high spot’ term used by wrestlers when putting together their matches.

AEW Star Chris Jericho Reveals Why He Is Against A Retirement Match

With both Goldberg and John Cena set to have their final match this year, wrestling veteran Chris Jericho has explained why he is against a retirement match. Speaking to Chris Van Vliet on Insight, he said,

“It’s weird for me, I don’t know if I want that much pomp and circumstance. I’m not sure if that’s John’s idea or if it’s the company’s idea. A big retirement match, that’s a lot of pressure. Like Sting with his last one, it was so good, but imagine if it wasn’t. Imagine like [Ric] Flair and Shawn [Michaels], that was a great match but then Flair was like, ‘God, I want to come back.’

It’s like a rock and roll band, why put that sort of stamp on it? This is the retirement tour and then you decide to come back. To me, I just kind of go with the flow and see where I am. Once again, I do not have the ego that would demand an official retirement tour or retirement match. If it’s something that I think would be interesting and I thought would be fun and cool, then maybe I’d do it.”
