Tonight saw the return of Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport to FITE, following its massive success in September of 2019. The ‘Shoot Style’ show is focused on presenting wrestling in a legitimate competitive manner akin to that of MMA or Amateur Wrestling. The aesthetic of a rope-less ring combined with the strike and ground-based composition of the matches creates a unique experience unlike any other event in wrestling.
The main event of the show saw AEW World Champion Jon Moxley take on one of the toughest performers in all of professional wrestling, former EVOLVE Tag Team Champion ‘Dirty Daddy’ Chris Dickinson. Moxley had originally been set to compete at Bloodsport back in September 2019 against the shows current namesake Josh Barnett, however, the same MRSA infection that would keep him from performing at AEW All Out also prevented him from fighting at Bloodsport.
Chris Dickinson is a powerhouse of the US independent scene performing regularly over the last five years for WWE affiliate organisation EVOLVE Wrestling where, along side Jaka, he is a two time Tag Team Champion under the name of ‘Catch Point’. During ‘Catch Point’s’ second reign, they defended the EVOLVE Tag Team Championships at WWE Wrestlemania Access against ‘The One Two’, Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch.
Moxley vs Dickinson was, unsurprisingly, an incredible fight between two apex predators of professional wrestling. A true fight, and possibly the purest reflection of pro-wrestling you will see in the modern-day, Bloodsport is a must-watch for any wrestling purists who want to be reminded what wrestling began as.
Dickinson dominated throughout using his sheer power and size advantage to ground and control the current IWGP US Champion, Dickinson almost had it won following a series of heavy ground-and-pound strikes followed by a Arm Bar attempt. However, it was not enough as Moxley recovered taking Dickinson down and forcing the submission victory via chokehold.
Elsewhere on the show, ‘Filthy’ Tom Lawler took on independent wrestling legend Homicide, whilst former NXT UK Superstar and wXw mainstay Killer Kelly took on former NWA and IMPACT Women’s Champion Allysin Kay.
