The ongoing saga involving CM Punk, Tony Khan, and AEW appears to be nearing its final stanza.
Speaking on a recent episode of his podcast, Dax Harwood revealed that CM Punk wanted to return to wrestling and AEW. This followed earlier reports that prior to an outburst on social media, Punk had been meeting with Tony Khan to seemingly work out plans for a comeback. Furthermore, it was noted that a deal was all but done.
Meanwhile, on April 13th it was reported by Fightful Select that the “wheels are in motion” regarding a return. AEW has announced an episode of Dynamite will be coming live from the Wintrust Arena in Chicago on June 21st, this is said to be a “date to look out for.” The working plan is that Punk will return at the show, or at least around it.
On top of the news that Punk would be open to working with The Elite, and there was a meeting planned with Chris Jericho, was another update on the structure of the company.
It should be noted that The Elite is believed to not be keen on working with Punk.
AEW Working On Roster Split
The report states that there has been a “lot more traction” within Warner Bros Discovery about the impending creation of a prime-time Saturday night show. It has been reported previously that this show could launch by July.
Interestingly the creation of the show is linked to the idea of a “soft brand split” which would “accommodate the preferences of talent who wanted to stay separate of the particular situations.”
Talent has heard the talk about the new show, but not CM Punk’s potential return.
