With AEW having such a large roster of signed talent, it’s difficult for the creative powers therein to manage everyone’s expectations and keep everyone happy.
And yet, the company does appear to do whatever it can to prevent any talent from leaving as there have been only a small handful of reports of talent being released or having their contracts non-renewed, especially compared to WWE.
This appears to be the reasoning behind AEW’s actions in a new report by Fightful Select which suggests that the company is working on a creative direction for a current champion whose contract is set to expire within the next week.
Brian Cage is the current World Six-Man Tag Team Champion alongside Toa Liona and Kaun. However, Cage’s ROH contract is officially set to expire at the end of March, with Cage having signed a small extension so that he can work the upcoming Supercard of Honor show on Friday March 31st, which is the start of WrestleMania weekend.
The report added that AEW’s creative team have begun focusing on Brian Cage and The Embassy and are working on some storylines for them following Supercard of Honor.
AEW wrestlers will appear on ROH Supercard of Honor on March 31st
Supercard of Honor is ROH’s first big show since December’s Final Battle and the first big wrestling show under Tony Khan’s larger wrestling umbrella since AEW Revolution earlier this month.
Brian Cage and The Embassy will be defending their ROH Six-Man Tag Titles against AR Fox, Blake Christian, and Metalik.
Aside from that match, the rest of the card includes the following matches:
- Samoa Joe [c] vs. Mark Briscoe for the ROH World Television Championship
- Athena [c] vs. Yuka Sakazaki for the ROH Women’s World Championship
- Wheeler Yuta [c] vs. Katsuyori Shibata for the ROH Pure Championship
- The Lucha Brothers vs. Top Flight vs. The Kingdom vs. Aussie Open vs. La Facción Ignobernable in a six-team ladder match for the vacant ROH World Tag Team Championships
- El Hijo del Vikingo [c] vs. Komander for the AAA Mega Championship
- Claudio Castagnoli [c] vs. Eddie Kingston for the ROH World Championship
