New AEW Women’s Owen Hart Tournament winner crowned.
Tonight on 25th May, 2025, in the opening match of the Double or Nothing PPV, TBS Champion Mercedes Mone went one-on-one against her finalist Jamie Hayter. While Mone defeated Athena to reach the finals, Hayter had to make her way through Kris Statlander.
In an extremely physical and closely contested fight, Mercedes Mone successfully defeated Jamie Hayter after countering her Hayterade into a DDT, which turned into a small package pinfall victory. Throughout the match, fans saw several close falls and hard bumps, including one Tombstone Hayter performed on Mone, which almost broke the CEO in half.
At the end of the segment, Mone stood tall at the top of the ramp with the Owen Hart title belt and cup, while earning herself a Women’s Championship match at All In 2025 on 12th July, 2025.
Mercedes Mone Revealed As The Brain Behind These Popular AEW Segments
Earlier this year, ahead of Grand Slam Australia, Harley Cameron introduced her Puppet Mone during her feud with Mercedes Mone for the TBS Championship. The puppet and the comic segments became extremely popular amongst the fans and went viral on the internet as well.
Later, during an interview with Chris Jericho on Talk Is Jericho,Harley Cameron revealed it to be the brainchild of Mercedes Mone.
“I posted a thing on Twitter being like, ‘Me and Earl are doing Cameo.’ I guess everyone at work was like, ‘You’re a puppeteer?’ It was Mercedes’ idea. I still remember when we spoke about it and she was like, ‘Could you ever do a puppet of me?’
It’s so funny she said it because the moment she said it, I was like, ‘No shit, I was literally thinking about doing this.’ I actually made the puppet. I bought the puppet base, but the hair and outfit, I have to give a shoutout to Chris, the seamstress here, he’s fantastic, he made the gear. I gave some of my old gear to him and he made her gear. We created Mini Mone ourselves and the people love it.”
