With the creation of All Elite Wrestling, AEW President Tony Khan made waves in the world of professional wrestling and gave WWE its first taste of real competition in decades.
Speaking in a recent interview with Brandon Kravitz on In the Zone, Khan opened up about the success of All Elite Wrestling as compared to its rival sports entertainment giant, saying that he believes there’s room for both companies to exist while praising the loyal fans who tune into Dynamite and Rampage every week.
“Well I think it’s clear that there’s room, because AEW every week, we have one of the top shows on cable. I mean, really, for months now, every Wednesday, you see the top shows, it’s basically AEW on TBS is competing with ESPN for the top spot, and those are the top things every week, and AEW’s had a lot of number one finishes in 2022.
“So, I do think we have a great, great audience that tunes in Wednesdays on TBS and Fridays on TNT every week and that’s what’s kept us going, so we have a consistent fan base now that we’ve built that are AEW fans, and over the years we’ve established that.”
Tony Khan Is Watching The WWE Sale Story “Very Closely”
Kravitz then turned the interview to the topic of Vince McMahon‘s return to WWE in order to facilitate a sale of the company. When asked whether or not he was following updates on the story, Khan replied:
“Yeah, absolutely. I’m following it very closely.”
News broke last week that as majority shareholder in the company, McMahon had voted himself back to the WWE Board of Directors after announcing his retirement in July amidst an investigation into alleged sexual misconduct and hush money payments. In the wake of his comeback it was reported that WWE have hired JP Morgan to advise on a potential sale.
