Basketball legend and cultural icon Shaq (Shaquille O’Neal) appears to be heading to AEW, following a major tease on Dynamite.
During his concession promo after dropping the TNT Championship to Darby Allin at Full Gear this past Sunday, Cody Rhodes was discussing his future plans when he was interrupted by a mystery woman stood behind him.
The woman in question revealed herself to be the debuting Jade Cargill, who took exception to Rhodes talking about wanting to “topple giants” and verbally berated him.
As she was about to leave, Cargill congratulated Cody on winning the rights to use his last name again but pointed out that he only did so because he was not man enough to use just one name.
This was the segue for Cargill to mention that she knew a giant who was not afraid to go by one name, and his name was Shaq.
The Shaq in question is of course Shaquille O’Neal, the 48-year-old basketball icon who has been dallying on the periphery of the wrestling business for several years.
Shaq was seemingly lined up on several occasions by WWE for a giant’s showdown against The Big Show at WrestleMania, but for a multitude of reasons (for which both sides blamed the other) it never happened.
Shaq instead tangled briefly with Big Show in a throwaway Andre the Giant Battle Royal appearance at WrestleMania 32
Other than that, Shaq has also made appearances on Raw, was in attendance in the corner of Hulk Hogan at WCW events and turned up backstage at Full Gear this past Saturday.
This fuelled rumours that Shaq was heading to AEW, which had initially picked up steam in August after he signed with WarnerMedia and in September after he was snapped training at QT Marshall’s Nightmare Factory training facility.
Based on that and Cargill’s tease, it looks very likely that Shaq will be making a Dynamite appearance in the coming weeks and that he seemingly has an in-ring meeting with Cody Rhodes in his near future.
