It has repeatedly been reported that WWE is interested in signing a number of AEW talents when their contracts expire over the next 12 months.
The sports entertainment giant has been linked with everyone from MJF and Wardlow to the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega. However, one AEW talent won’t be going to WWE when their contract runs out.
Speaking on his What Happened When podcast, announcer Tony Schiavone responded to claims that he’s been given a “lifetime contract” by Tony Khan. Schiavone, who joined the company as an announcer in 2019 and has since also taken on the role of Senior Producer and Special Advisor and Talent Relations, said that his deal runs out in April 2024.
“That’s a f**king lie unless my life ends by April next year.
There is no guarantee that they’re going to re-sign me. That’s how I approach life: no guarantees. Klondike Bill told me one time, ‘The job is a day-to-day thing, Tony.’ That’s how I approach my life.”
When it was suggested that a switch to WWE could be on the table, Schiavone joked that his wife has said she’ll divorce him if he even thinks of going back.
“No, it’s well-established here at the Schiavone household that, Lois Schiavone has said if I even think about going to the WWE, she’ll divorce me!”
