AEW are still interested in signing free agents if they become available.
All Elite Wrestling had a very successful signing period in the spring of 2024 as Will Ospreay, Kazuchika Okada and Mercedes Mone all became All Elite. According to follow-up reports, each respective signing was also given a much higher salary than what any of the other promotions were offering.
With a large roster and only so many slots available on weekly TV and pay-per-views, some may have been under the belief that Tony Khan may ease back on the signings and focus on developing the stars that he has. However, according to a new report, this is not the case.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer stated that the promotion is monitoring which wrestlers are nearing the end of their current deals even though a significant amount of money was spent on their recent signings:
“I know that AEW is looking at people whose contracts are up. Whether they get anyone I don’t know, but they’re definitely looking. You know, sometimes you think that they made this big, big investment with Okada, Ospreay and Mercedes and maybe they’re not looking for other people. But they still are.”
AEW Star Nearing The End Of Their Contract
Although Tony Khan may be looking at possible new signings, a number of AEW talent have exited the promotion in the past few months. On top of Andrade and Shawn Spears each choosing not to renew their contract and return to WWE, Matt Hardy also chose to not re-sign and is exploring free agency. Additionally, it has been reported that Jeff Hardy is approaching the end of his current deal with the company.
