With Forbidden Door on the horizon, one AEW star says that they were set to make a return to New Japan Pro Wrestling before the idea had to be scrapped.

The best wrestlers that AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling are set to do battle in the United Center in Chicago on June 26th at Forbidden Door.

In the main event, Hiroshi Tanahashi will tangle with Jon Moxley to crown an Interim AEW World Champion in CM Punk’s absence. The IWGP and ROH Tag Team Championships will both be on the line in a Three Way match between FTR, Roppongi Vice, and United Empire while the IWGP United States Title will be on the line as Will Ospreay takes on Orange Cassidy.

Ospreay’s opponent for the event was originally someone very different however as he was originally pencilled in to defend his gold against Andrade El Idolo. Unfortunately, Andrade has been caught in a political battle as AEW’s Mexican stars who also compete for AAA have been barred from working at the event. New Japan currently has a working agreement with AAA’s rival company, CMLL

Speaking to AAA commentator and Lucha Libre Online’s Hugo Savinovich, Andrade El Idolo confirmed his issues surrounding the affair are not with AEW:

“My problem is not with AEW, because they had an idea for me to face Will Ospreay. The idea was to face him for the IWGP United States Championship.”

Andrade went on to say that it had been planned that he would appear on a New Japan show in the lead-up to the event, presumably to build to his match with Will Ospreay but that won’t be happening either.

Andrade El Idolo last competed under the New Japan Pro Wrestling banner back in 2015 when he still wrestled as La Sombra.
