According to a new report, Matt Hardy‘s AEW contract is expiring within a matter of weeks.
After his exit from WWE in March of 2020, Matt Hardy made his debut in All Elite Wrestling on the March 18th episode of Dynamite. The star has portrayed a number of personas since joining the company, and in March of 2022, his brother Jeff Hardy joined him to reunite as a tag team.
Multiple factors have caused difficulties for Matt during his AEW career, from the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic to his brother Jeff Hardy’s arrest in June of 2022. Jeff is once again injured after Sammy Guevara’s knee met his head during a recent match, and so far, Matt has only wrestled one match in 2024, teaming with his brother and Mark Briscoe on a January episode of Rampage. He wrestled regularly throughout 2023.
Now, Fightful Select reports that Matt’s contract is set to expire by the end of March, leaving just weeks for the star to potentially re-sign. The report notes that there is no indication as to whether or not he plans to re-sign with All Elite Wrestling, but he has been in contact with the company to discuss the possibility.
The report also makes note of the fact that despite Jeff Hardy‘s contract expiration originally matching his brother’s, time has been added on due to injury and inactivity.
In recent news, Kyle O’Reilly is set to return to an AEW ring after nearly 2 years out with an injury.
AEW Star Matt Hardy Addressed His Wrestling Future
In an October episode of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, the former leader of the Hardy Family Office opened up about his goals for the future, saying he wanted to continue wrestling as long as his body would allow him:
“I don’t know. I will leave that up to my body. I will let it determine how much longer I can do this. It’s my passion. It’s something I love. I’m at that point where I like giving back and I like helping other people as well. So I’m gonna do it as long as I can do it, you know, and when it’s time to hang it up and move on, I shall hang it up and move on.” (h/t Fightful)
Elsewhere on the podcast, Matt Hardy revealed which of his many personas is his favorite.
