AEW Star Suffers Fractured Ankle; In-Ring Return On Hold

AEW Samoa Joe

Popular AEW star down with ankle fracture.

Last seen in action at the All In 2025 PPV, former World Champion and one-third of the Trios Champions, Samoa Joe, has been missing from action since then.

Busy shooting his part for the upcoming Peacock series ‘Twisted Metal’ season 2, Samoa Joe recently dropped a major update on his comeback status. Speaking with Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Joe revealed his recently suffered ankle fracture injury and shared more details about it.

“I’m doing great, Mike. Season one was fun in the fact that Twisted Metal’s a property that I’m very familiar with. I grew up playing the games, spent hours on the couch blowing up all my friends for days at a time when the game first came out. It was definitely a deep understanding of the games and the lore, throughout the series through Black and beyond.

Sitting down with our showrunner, Michael Jonathan Smith, and figuring out what characteristics we wanted to pick from each iteration of Sweet Tooth to create this one for the television show — going back through the games, watching cut scenes, getting a vibe for Sweet Tooth at his most violent and Sweet Tooth at his silliest — and bringing that together, that really was the initial.

Getting together with Will Arnett and figuring out how this guy acts, his mannerisms, his quirks, that was also a fun process. Coming into second season, we had the system down pretty well, and it was much smoother and a lot easier to slip into.”

“Normally, I would say the ring is always a much more precarious place to be in, but halfway through the season, I fractured my ankle. It was just parking, and I had to hop out the back on some really rocky, busted-up asphalt. I turned my ankle and spent the rest of the season taping it up and limping through it.”

He further said,

Twisted Metal is incredibly physical — fighting scenes, driving scenes. Anytime that car is driving, you see me in it, it’s me. It’s a demanding role, but spending enough time in the ring as I have, it’s no new territory.”

However, when asked about his return timeline, Joe dropped an unfortunate update.

“Definitely sooner than later. We’re clearing our various medical protocols, and as soon as we’re done with that, we’ll be back to business.”

The veteran was written off television after an attack from The Death Riders at All In Texas, and currently, there are no confirmed updates on his return.

We at ITR Wrestling wish Samoa Joe a safe recovery.

Out And Injured, AEW Star Dustin Rhodes Has Revealed His Retirement Goal

Another currently sidelined AEW star with an injury is Dustin Rhodes. Well past the age of 50, Rhodes is set to undergo double knee surgery later this month.

However, still positive about his return, the former TNT Champion recently shared his pre-retirement goal.

My meniscus is non existent in both lol. It’s work ethic and love that pushes me through. Its people telling me to retire that pushes me even more! I am still, at 56, one of the greatest professional wrestlers in the world. Age s just a number. Sometimes you have to manifest shit and get it done. I absolutely know my time is nearing the end but NOT YET! Gotta get the world title as that should be every pro wrestlers goal.”
