AEW Star Set To Return After Near 2 Year Absence

The return of Kyle O’Reilly to AEW‘s in-ring action has been officially confirmed.

O’Reilly is set to face Bryan Keith in his first match since June 8, 2022, on the upcoming AEW Collision, as announced during Wednesday’s Dynamite. O’Reilly’s absence from wrestling stemmed from his recovery following neck fusion surgery in September 2022, during which he encountered a rare post-surgical complication. His impending return bout at Collision marks a significant milestone in his journey back to the squared circle.

In a candid interview with Renee Paquette, O’Reilly reflected on the challenging road to his comeback, acknowledging the physical and emotional toll of his recovery.

For two years the thought of never wrestling again, the least of my problems. There was a span where I couldn’t physically pick up my daughter and they were the darkest days of my life. But my neck got better and my arm got better and now that I’m here and I look at the landscape, the AEW roster, and I just wonder if I can still hang.

Expressing his determination to test his abilities within the company’s competitive roster, O’Reilly conveyed his excitement for the upcoming showdown with Bryan Keith, emphasising the significance of the match as his first in nearly two years.

It’s probably the most competitive roster in the history of the sport. But then I look at a guy I’m impressed by. A guy I’ve had my sights set on, so to speak, a guy that I think can bring out ‘that’ Kyle O’Reilly. So, ‘Bounty Hunter’ Bryan Keith you and I, we have a duel this Saturday on Collision, my first match back in almost two years, my home country, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Following his return match, an emotional Kyle O’Reilly reflected on how lucky he was to get back in the ring.
