AEW Star Reveals Why He Rejected Darby Allin’s Invite To Climb Mount Everest

The Most Painful Bump Of AEW Star Darby Allin's Career

AEW star Darby Allin has done the unthinkable, and had once offered the same challenge to another top AEW star.

Last seen in his Continental Classic match against Ricochet on the 22nd December episode of Dynamite, Allin has been absent from television since. While a recent update emerged about Darby Allin’s AEW future, he has now successfully conquered Mount Everest.

While he etched his name in history, Allin had once invited Sammy Guevara on the same expedition. However, Guevara passed on the opportunity because of his family. Recently, during an interview with Bill Apter, Guevara expressed his happiness for Allin before explaining why he let the opportunity go.

“It’s something that him and I talked about years ago. He invited me to go do it with him, but I can’t leave my family. I can’t go and possibly risk dying up there. Maybe a younger Sammy would have took him up on that offer. I’m not so old. I just feel like I can’t climb that. It’s very selfish of me to go, ‘Hey, my little baby, I’m going to go risk my life to climb this mountain. I may never come back.’

I feel like if you have a kid, it’d be very selfish of you to go and do something to put your life at risk like that. Darby doesn’t have any kids yet, so I think more respect to him. He did it. What an accomplishment. It’s something he’s wanted to do for a long time. He wanted to do it last year, but he broke his leg and couldn’t do it.”

He further said,

“He was able to do it now. I’m super happy for him. I texted him whenever it was reported that he did it, and we were just chatting back and forth. There’s a little crazy part of me that’s like, ‘Ooh, man, that adrenaline of risking it all to go and make it on top of the mountain, it’s super exciting for an adrenaline junkie like me. But I also got to remember it’s not just about me anymore. So I will be doing none of that.”

AEW President Tony Khan Once Turned Down This Dangerous Darby Allin Pitch

Speaking with Phil Schneider on the Way of the Blade podcast, Tony Khan revealed how he had once turned down this dangerous Darby Allin pitch.

“Darby in the pandemic, early in the pandemic when we had a very light crew. The April 2020 shows that we filmed in QT [Marshall] and Cody [Rhodes’] gym in Georgia, they had just under 30% of the roster there. Darby wanted to get hit by a car in his program with Sammy [Guevara].

I said, ‘That’s not something we can do right now because we really need you. Not only can I afford for you to not get hurt, I can’t even write you off for a week to sell. You need to wrestle on the show every week, so I can’t do that. We don’t have anybody else and you’re a major part of what we’re doing week to week.’

I think that would have not made sense when you have a handful of people there and there are very few of the name wrestlers and he wants to get hit by a car. Not only can we afford for him to not be injured, we really can’t afford for him to be off TV for a week.”
