AEW Star Requests Release

AEW Star Requests Release

AEW star Miro has asked for his release from the company.

As reported by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, the former TNT Champion and the promotion were “unable to get on the same page creatively”, which has become common for the two sides recently.

The Fightful report also provides an insight into the status of the absent star, stating that while he has not wrestled in 2024, he has been healthy “for quite some time” and there was at one point consideration to use him in the Casino Gauntlet match at All In. Another scrapped pitch was made by the wrestler, who wanted to work with Jon Moxley.

The former TNT Champion has been used sparingly in the past few years, only wrestling 11 matches in 2022 and 2023. Last competing at the Worlds End pay-per-view in December 2023, the absent star defeated Andrade El Idolo in what turned out to be El Idolo’s final match in the company. Andrade made his WWE return at the Royal Rumble one month later.

AEW Release May Not Be Granted

Fightful does not know if Miro has been granted his release or if the former Rusev in WWE has received interest from the company. Fightful also adds that in regards to his salary, the AEW star is “earning into the seven figures.”

In regards to his contract status, it is reported that the AEW star initially signed a contract when he joined All Elite Wrestling in September 2020 that was going to expire in spring 2022. However, in 2022, Miro signed a 4-year extension which means that he could remain with the company until spring 2026 if the release request is denied.

If the release is granted then this will be the latest name to depart the company in 2024, which also includes two former stars who have since reportedly signed with WWE.
