Currently ruled out of WrestleMania 41, Kevin Owens is scheduled to undergo neck surgery.

Last week, The Prizefighter announced suffering from a serious neck injury, which required surgery. While it ruled Owens out of his Mania spot, it also left Randy Orton without an opponent. Recently, in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that Kevin Owens underwent surgery on 7 April.Another recent report from Fightful Select, has ruled it out.

Neck injuries have been one of the most concerning injuries in wrestling as well as other sporting industries. Medicine and medical treatments have come a long way. While a neck injury previously ruled out all chances of a wrestling return, such has not been the case recently.

Addressing Owens’ injury on his My World podcast, AEW star Jeff Jarrett shared his optimism about the situation.

“Kevin is one of those guys — he ain’t afraid to — he’s taken big, big, big bumps. I guess something happened in a recent match. Man, I hate that. If that’s the reality, look it’s never a good time, but what a disastrous time for all of this to go down. It feels like it was just yesterday and on the other hand, kind of like a lifetime ago where man, you have C3, C4, C5 surgery, you’re done. It is instant retirement, it’s over. But now, the advancements in the procedures and the technology and the healing and what they know and all of that.

Have they given a specific diagnosis? My understanding is no, because that’s what I would kind of lean into, like what actually is the surgery? I do know enough to know that neck surgeries can be minor or major, I think that’s the easy way to say it. Man, what a hell of a performer. He puts his heart into this business in so many ways and has for years. Missing a Mania is huge for those guys.”

In the same interview with Chris Van Vliet on Insight,Kevin Owens recalled how he once busted open Vince McMahon during their 2017 promo segment on SmackDown.

“He just talked all kinds of sh*t. He’s shaking my hand and just saying, I don’t remember what he said, but he was really trying to provoke me because he wanted to make sure I was going to lay in that headbutt. Little did he know I was already planning on laying it in because I had worked for him for two years at that point, I wasn’t going to miss that chance. So I did and yeah, it was a pretty insane moment. When he came up with the blood and everything I was like, Whoa, here we go.”
