AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Mone reflects on an extremely historic match back in WWE.
Over the last decade, Mercedes Mone aka Sasha Banks has enjoyed one of the most memorable wrestling careers of all time. With multiple championship victories from all over the world, Mone is currently one of the biggest stars in AEW.
WrestleMania 37 marked the first PLE in front of a live audience after the Covid-19 pandemic. At the show, Mone and her opponent Bianca Belair created history when they became the first black women to have a singles match in the main event of WWE’s biggest show. Recently in an interview with WTOP, Mercedes Mone opened up on the achievement and claimed how she never thought this to be possible.
It was so emotional. That was one of my biggest dreams since I was 10 years old, but it was so big I didn’t think it was possible, then here I was at WrestleMania 37 in the middle of the ring looking at Bianca like, ‘Wow, we are doing this, this is so much bigger than us, bigger than wrestling.’ That moment was so special. The way she looked at me, I was like, ‘Girl, you better stop before I start bawling and we slip in the ring from our tears.'”
Before this, only Becky Lynch, Ronda Rousey, and Charlotte Flair headlined a WrestleMania main event in 2019. WWE is yet to produce another women’s main-event match at WrestleMania, thus leaving the bragging rights to only Mone and Belair.
Mercedes Mone Wants To Face This Grammy-Award-Winning Artist
In an interview with TMZ, Mercedes Mone opened up about a match with Grammy-award-winning artist, Megan Thee Stallion. She and the multiple-awards-winning star were involved in the past about a match, and Mone wants to recreate that scene in the future.
A couple years back me and Meg we’re supposed to do something in the ring together. We were just rehashing that conversation, seeing where that could all play in the future. Whether she’s gonna be my tag team partner or my opponent, we have to see, but I want to get Meg Thee Stallion in the ring very, very soon one day.”
Mercedes Mone and Megan were captured together earlier this year at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards.
