Mercedes Mone is yet to wrestle in 2023 but her name is arguably hotter than it’s ever been.
The star’s future has been a source of constant speculation ever since she walked out of the May 16th episode of Monday Night Raw along with Naomi. However, there was finally a concrete development on January 4th when the former Sasha Banks walked out at Wrestle Kingdom 17 to lay down a challenge to IWGP Women’s Champion KAIRI.
It has been confirmed that the two women will meet at NJPW Battle in the Valley in San Jose on February 18th. However, there are rumours that Mone could be back in the ring a month before that. Ever since she walked out on WWE the former Raw Women’s Champion has been linked with a move to AEW. This speculation went into overdrive when it was announced that Saraya would be teaming with a mystery partner on the January 11th episode of Dynamite to take on Jamie Hayter and Britt Baker.
While Toni Storm has been announced as Saraya’s partner there are some who believe that she will still be involved in the match.
Is Mercedes Mone About To Debut With AEW?
During an appearance on Shade 45 with DJ Whoo Kid the British star discussed the speculation around her former colleague and friend. The first-ever NXT Women’s Champion said that she didn’t know Mone’s next move but admitted she would love to face her in an AEW commenting that they even have a built in storyline.
“I don’t know. I wish I knew that. Even Meech, my manager, is constantly asking, and I’m just like, ‘I have no idea!’ And I asked Tony Khan. I’m like, ‘What’s the deal?’ … I would love to do it [a match with Mercedes] in AEW because I’m there. I mean, Tony has a good relationship with New Japan. He loves New Japan. Sasha, I texted her the other day just to be like, ‘Congratulations.’ She said she’s happy.
I’m not starting any rumors with her. But I would one day love to have — I mean, we have a built-in storyline because unfortunately it was me and her in the ring when my career was ended. So when I got cleared, she was one of the first people I texted, ‘Guess what?! You don’t have to feel bad anymore!’”
Dynamite on January 11th will be headlined by the Escalera de la Muerte (ladder) match between The Elite and Death Triangle. The match is the final bout in their ‘Best of Seven’ series and the winners will be crowned AEW World Trios Champions.
