Bryan Danielson was a bit of a prankster backstage and made one AEW star do single-leg swats.
“The American Dragon” Bryan Danielson has often been portrayed on television as a vicious wrestling machine. However, there have been times when he showed a more comedic side to his personality.
One AEW star who mentioned that Bryan is perhaps a bit of a prankster is Griff Garrison. The young star, who recently wrestled this past week on Dynamite revealed a funny interaction he had with the former World Heavyweight Champion backstage during a recent interview on the Specifically Devoid podcast.
“We were in Baltimore and he looked at me, we were getting physicals done. We were getting blood pressure taken and he was one or two people behind me and he’s like, ‘Griff, I bet I have better blood pressure than you.’ ‘Okay.’ ‘You wanna bet?’ ‘Absolutely, I’m 24 and you’re 50 years old.’ Mine was either 122 over 80 or 120 over 82. I had one and he had the other.”
“We went to Doc Sampson after he’s like, ‘It’s kind of the same thing.’ We bet on doing 45 single-leg pistol squats, all on one leg. The loser had to do them. Danielson looked at him [Doc Sampson] and was like, ‘I’m older, so you should give the nudge to me, right?’ Doc was like, ‘Yeah,’ so I had to do the single-leg squats. My leg was throbbing the rest of the day. It was miserable. That’s an example of how he tries to entertain himself and everyone else.”
Danielson has proven he has magnificent in-ring conditioning, wrestling multiple matches per night and sometimes going over an hour. He’s also previously been a strong proponent of a plant-based diet. However, he revealed that he couldn’t remain a vegan due to developing an intolerance for soy.
Many fans had expected Danielson to compete at AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door. Unfortunately, an injury kept Danielson on the shelf, and Claudio Castagnoli replaced him for the match against Zack Sabre Jr. There is no word on when Danielson is expected to return.
