AEW Star Looks Back On Recent Match With Sting

A member of the AEW roster feels honoured to be a part of one of Sting’s final matches.

The Icon announced that he would be bringing his legendary career to an end on March 3rd at the Revolution pay-per-view. With The Hall of Famer continuing to compete before the next big show, many cities are getting the opportunity to witness the former World Champion compete live one final time.

Additionally, a select few wrestlers have the privilege of competing against The Icon in his last few matches. On January 10th, The Icon teamed with Darby Allin to face off against Konosuke Takeshita and Powerhouse Hobbs. Additionally, Ric Flair was ringside for the match.

Speaking with Adrian Hernandez, Hobbs is still in disbelief that the man he got to compete against the man he watched wrestle while growing up:

“I have so many childhood memories of Sting, but actually being in the ring with him. Him trusting me, me trusting him, and having a hell of a tornado tag match, teaming with Takeshita against Darby and Sting. Having Ric Flair in the mix. Main event match on TV. If you would have asked me two years ago, come on,”

Not looking to take it easy in his final matches, the Hall of Famer would win the match after hitting a Scorpion Death Drop onto Hobbs from an elevated platform. Giving an update on his own condition, Hobbs revealed that he is ok but joked that there might be another meeting between himself and The Icon before Revolution:

“I’m good. Sting better watch out. I know he’s retiring March 3rd, so payback could still come.”

With the Greensboro Coliseum in North Carolina the confirmed venue for Revolution, ticket sales in the area are very strong and likely to draw the largest North American crowd for the promotion in 2024.

In the same interview, the former TNT Champion made a bold claim about one of his AEW matches in 2023.

Who Will Sting’s Final Opponent Be?

Ever since it was announced that The Icon would be competing one last time at Revolution, many were curious as to who would be a part of the final match. In what was a mixed response by fans, it was revealed on the January 10th episode that The Young Bucks would compete at the pay-per-view against the Former World Champion and Darby Allin. According to a new report, Sting personally chose his opponents and creative plans were altered as a result.
