John Cena may have debuted against Kurt Angle in June 2002, but it wasn’t until he picked up a mic and started rapping in November that his star truly began to rise.
Taking the role of a p*ssed off rapper, Cena would verbally roast his opponents before stepping into the ring with them. During this period the star dubbed himself the “Doctor of Thuganomics.”
Fast forward to 2023 and another wrestler is verbally skewering their opponents to music in the form of Max Caster. The star has often drawn comparisons with Cena for his performances and unsurprisingly the AEW tag team star looked up to the 16-time World Champion when he was younger.
Max Caster Comments On Receiving Praise From John Cena
During an appearance on The AJ Awesome Show, Caster revealed that Cena has repeatedly reached out to him to show encouragement. The star also discussed the WWE legend serving as inspiration, especially early in his career.
“John Cena is a huge inspiration. I’ve never met him, but he reaches out to me from time to time. He’s been very, very nice, and for my hero as a teenager to reach out to me and, in the midst of people saying, ‘Oh, you’re a Cena rip-off, you’re just doing something that’s old, we don’t want to see this in wrestling now,’ for him to reach out and say, ‘You’re doing it the right way,’ sometimes he says I do it better than he did, it’s his opinion.
I don’t know if I wanna agree with that, but I believe in myself, 100%, and his confidence in me only boosts me up. I don’t know if he knows how much that means, but it means a lot. So he’s my inspiration back then and now still,”
Max Caster recently sparked controversy with one of his raps after making comments about Jeff Jarrett and his wife’s earlier marriage to Kurt Angle. The comments caused Karen Jarrett to hit back on social media, while accusing Angle of having multiple affairs while they were married. Jeff later said that he was sick of his wife being attacked in such a way and said Caster had a “receipt” coming on the January 4th episode of Dynamite. In response, Caster’s tag team partner Anthony Bowens warned Jarrett over taking liberties in the ring.
On the show The Acclaimed saw of Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal to retain the AEW World Tag Team Titles.
