AEW’s injury list has been growing in recent weeks and now a new report says another name has been added to that list ahead of Forbidden Door.
The first match originally scheduled for AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling’s upcoming supershow Forbidden Door was AEW World Champion CM Punk taking on NJPW’s Ace, Hiroshi Tanahashi. And that’s where things started to fall apart.
Punk subsequently announced that he was injured and required surgery on his foot, taking him out of action for an undetermined amount of time. Rather than vacate his title, AEW announced that a series of matches would take place with an Interim AEW World Champion being crowned at Forbidden Door. Ultimately this has led to Tanahashi taking on Jon Moxley for that title.
Bryan Danielson was also scheduled to be in action in what would have surely been a technical masterpiece against NJPW star, Zack Sabre Jr. The American Dragon announced on Dynamite however that injury meant he would also miss Forbidden Door as well as Blood & Guts. Although he has promised a surprise combatant who will take his place in both those bouts.
Now Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has provided an update on another star, saying “Add Jungle Boy to the lengthy injury list for AEW.”
Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus recently lost the AEW World Tag Team Championship in a ladder match to The Young Bucks. After the bout Christian Cage turned on Jungle Boy, nailing him with the Kill Switch and a one-man con-chair-to.
On Dynamite Cage explained his actions before commenting on Jungle Boy’s father, the late actor Luke Perry. This prompted Luchasaurus to confront Christian Cage but the smart-talking Cage managed to talk the dinosaur out of giving him a beating.
