Ryo Mizunami Hospitalised After Testing Positive For COVID-19

AEW star and winner of this year’s AEW Women’s Eliminator tournament Ryo Mizunami is currently in hospital having contracted COVID-19.

A report from PW Insider noted that Mizunami reported a fever and tested positive for the virus on July 26th, before developing a case of pneumonia, most likely as a result of the infection.

Mizunami, who recently won Joshi promotion SEAdLINNNG’s Beyond The Sea Single Championship from fellow AEW tournament star ASUKA (or Veny), provided an update on her condition via Twitter:

PW Insider also noted that fellow SEAdLINNNG stars Nanae Takahashi and Honori Hana had also tested positive for COVID-19, though they had experienced milder symptoms and were recovering at home.

The remainder of the promotion’s roster was tested as a matter of course, but thankfully no further positive tests were announced. SEAdLINNNG did however have to postpone their July 26th show as a direct result.

Mizunami enjoyed a fruitful run in All Elite earlier this year, wrestling for the promotion both in Japan and in the US from February through to April.

Her most recent appearance for the company came on April 22nd where she was defeated by Abadon on AEW Dark: Elevation.

Everyone here at Inside the Ropes wishes Ryo well in her recovery.
