AEW Star Off Forbidden Door Due To Backstage Politics

A popular AEW star has announced they will not be appearing at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door as a result of “backstage politics.”

The build-up to AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door has been verging on chaotic for weeks and the road to the event shows no sign of getting any easier.

The first roadblock came in the form of an injury to AEW World Champion CM Punk. Just days after it was announced that Punk would be meeting Hiroshi Tanahashi at the super-show, Punk revealed that he needed to undergo surgery. This left AEW in need of an Interim World Champion, and Tanahashi without an opponent.

Following a short eliminator series, Jon Moxley will now face Tanahashi to crown an Interim World Champion. However, just as that fire had been successfully fought, Andrade took to social media claiming that he was being prevented from appearing withh NJPW by AAA and CMLL.

Mexican promotion CMLL currently has a working relationship with NJPW while in his home country Andrade El Idolo competes for CMLL’s competitors AAA.

It was later reported that Andrade had been scheduled for Forbidden Door but will now longer appear. AAA and Mexican wrestling legend Konnan, claimed that the decision had nothing to do with AAA.

AEW star Max Caster has now also got in on the action, saying that backstage politics got in the way of him appearing on the show.

It has also been reported by Lucha Blog, that Rey Fenix and Penta will also miss the show, although no reason was given as to why.

To date, only two matches have been announced for Forbidden Door on June 26th. The show will be headlined by the clash between Jon Moxley and Hiroshi Tanahashi, while a Four-Way Match will be held to crown the first-ever AEW All-Atlantic Champion.
