AEW Star Darby Allin Details Main Goals For Directorial Debut

Darby Allin’s upcoming movie is likely to be exactly what AEW fans would expect it to be.

No stranger to being behind the camera as well as in front of it, Allin has been a part of the production of a number of a number of vignettes prior to his entrances at big events. A former film school student, Allin will be directing a full-length film later this year and it sounds as chaotic as his performances in the ring.

Speaking with Fightful, the former TNT Champion provided more details about the upcoming project and how his creative processes are similar to that of his matches:

“Yes and no. I always get this worry of, whenever a wrestler does something outside of wrestling, they have that stench of a wrestler doing something. I want to blow the doors down. I want to make a crazy violent film where it’s not like ‘Darby was playing it safe.’ I want to offend people. ‘F*ck you. You’re not f*cking with my art.’

I was in film school, we were making a movie, and the teacher told me, ‘You cannot make movies like this.’ I said, ‘I’m over 18. There should be no rules to what your body of art should be, especially in film school, of all places.’ I told her, ‘I’m done.’ I dropped out and that’s when I started training to be a pro wrestler.

This is a full circle story to that. It’s interesting, but I literally will not compromise for anybody. That’s for wrestling, filmmaking, anything I do outside of the ring. That goes back to AEW. They said, ‘You’re onto something, just do you.’ I’ve been able to flourish so much within the five years of this company. It’s awesome. Just let people be themselves. Some people need to be led because not everybody has it within them. The people that have it within them, and you can sense that they have it, just let them loose.”

Darby Allin Health Update Following Double Or Nothing

Returning to the ring as part of the chaotic Anarchy in the Arena match at Double or Nothing, Allin was on the receiving end of a lot of punishment as he dove off balconies and was kicked in the face with thumbtack-lined shoes while suspended in the air upside down. In a follow-up report by Fightful Select, it was noted that Allin “appears to be fine, whatever that means by his standards.”

Taking to social media after the match, Darby Allin showed off the aftermath of the match. Despite Allin being worse for wear, Jack Perry took the worst punishment as he was literally set on fire.

Also in the interview, Darby Allin revealed who has hit him the hardest.
