An AEW star who is currently side-lined due to injury could be out for an extended period despite showing positive recovery progress.
Brian Cage was originally set to team with Lance Archer to challenge The Hurt Syndicate for the Tag Team Championships at AEW Dynasty. However, as Cage suffered an injury at an independent show, the match was changed to Big Bill and Bryan Keith being named as the challengers.
On April 15th, Cage provided an update on his status, which saw the AEW star post a picture of his knee post-surgery and that he was already back in the gym. However, according to a further update, the former FTW Champion could be out much longer.
AEW Star Could Be Out Of Action For A Year
As reported by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Cage’s injury is a quad tear and not a knee injury. It is also noted that while Cage is hoping to return ahead of time, the expected recovery is around one year:
“Regarding Brian Cage, it appears his injury was a torn quad and not a knee injury. That’s usually a one year recuperation period but he’s vowing to come back quicker. He had an injury in the leg for months that he’d been working on. He didn’t realize it was as bad as it was. He was working an indie in Los Angeles against Chris Masters and went for a spinebuster. On the initial pickup, the left leg buckled and he felt the tear bad.
He described it as felling like a piece of paper tearing in half. It wasn’t anything to do with the match or the spot, as much as the prior injury was worse than he thought and it was going to tear, but he didn’t realize it had gotten that bad. He just felt he could work through it through at least All In Texas and then taking time off to let it heal.”
Everyone at Inside The Ropes would like to wish Brian Cage a full and speedy recovery.
