AEW Star Confirms Departure; Thanks Tony Khan

Former AEW star Andrade El Idolo is officially a free agent.

Following on from Worlds End, Tony Khan stated that El Idolo’s contract expired on January 1st and added that his final match against Miro was leaving on a high note. Further clarification that neither side could reach an agreement was seen on New Year’s Day when El Idolo was removed from the promotion’s roster page.

A new update has since been provided by El Idolo. Taking to social media to issue a statement, El Idolo confirmed that he is no longer a part of the promotion but thanked many top names for all that they have done:

“I want to thank you for this time that I belonged to the company @aew and above all to Tony khan I also want to say goodbye to all the talent, security people, cameramen, referees and everyone who works in the company for being part of my time in AEW. kenny, young bucks, tazz, Shiavone, Aubrey, Jerry, Hobbs, hook, Kingston, Ricky, Orange, thunder, jack Perry, Austin, Colten, Sonjay and many more that I can name, also how to forget all the Mexicans (todo el relajo)

I enjoyed sharing the ring with STING, PAC, Darby, Garcia, Jay and many more. I would have loved to face MOX, Page, Hobbs, Ricky, Dante, Cage, Dustin. Thank you AEW AND Thank you to all the fans for your support always. I wish you the best always!!!”

As El Idolo’s contract has expired, there is no non-compete attached and he is able to appear for any promotion until further notice. Many expect El Idolo to make a WWE return at some point in the near future, with some fans expecting the surprise appearance on the Day 1 episode of Raw. However, according to a recent report, there was a specific reason why Andrade El Idolo did not appear on the New Year’s Day episode of WWE Raw.
