After a chaotic end to 2022 and something of an uncertain start to 2023, AEW has gathered some serious momentum in recent weeks.
In early April the company announced that it would be heading to the United Kingdom for the first time ever in August with a monster show at Wembley Stadium. To date, the show has already sold over 60,000 tickets, despite no matches being announced.
There is reportedly a new television show on the way, and CM Punk is on the verge of a comeback.
Meanwhile, storylines involving already featured stars are beginning to heat up with MJF set to defend his AEW World Championship in a Four-Way Match, and the Blackpool Combat Club is at war with The Elite.
During a recent interview with Justin Barrasso for Sports Illustrated, Jon Moxley gave his thoughts on AEW, heading to Wembley, and his long-running rivalry with Kenny Omega.
With regard to the war between the BCC and The Elite, Moxley said that he was excited to be pushing forward, with his well-documented demons now behind him.
“Gearing up with the BCC for this war against The Elite, I’m so excited I can do this now that I have my s— straight. I don’t care what obstacles are in front of me. By sheer force of will, I’m going to squeeze every single drop of potential out of myself that I can. Anyone who stands in the way can get f—ed. I’m not going to sit idly and let time go by. I’m going to completely realize the best version of Jon Moxley, whatever that is.”
The three-time AEW World Champion also admitted that he and Kenny Omega actually have a lot in common. He went on to describe the feud between their rival factions as the apex of professional wrestling.
“Another thing me and Kenny have in common is that no matter how our bodies feel, when people give us their time and money, we put it all on the line,” says Moxley. “We just don’t know any other way to do it.
The BCC vs. The Elite, this rivalry is the absolute apex of professional wrestling right now. We’re going to have a great crowd and we have the steel cage. It’s got all the ingredients for a really memorable night.”
