AEW Star To Challenge For ROH Women’s World Title

AEW Mercedes Martinez as ROH Women's World Champion

It has been announced that ROH Women’s World Champion Mercedes Martinez will put her title on the line against a top AEW star at Death Before Dishonor.

The title bout was announced by Tony Schiavone on AEW Control Center making it the fourth championship match confirmed for the PPV.

The match was made after Martinez and Deeb clashed in recent weeks. The two veterans formed an effective tag team winning five matches, but they were unable to perform as a cohesive unit as Deeb’s heelish ways didn’t sit well with her partner.

All came to a head on the July 6th edition of Rampage when Deeb refused to release the Serenity Lock on her opponent causing Martinez to break it up. Deeb then retaliated by attacking her and placing the champion into the submission hold. The bad blood continued on this week’s Dynamite when Martinez came to the aid of Anna Jay when Deeb kept the Dark Order member trapped after she had tapped out.

Martinez has been the ROH Women’s World Champion since Supercard of Honor XV on April 1st. At the PPV she defeated Willow Nightingale to become the interim title holder because champion Deonna Purrazzo was unable to defend her title at the show.

Then on the May 4 episode of Dynamite, she defeated Deonna Purrazzo to unify the titles and become the Women’s World Champion. Since capturing the gold, Martinez has racked up defences against the likes of Trish Adora, Hyan, Mazzerati, and Viva Van.
