A top AEW star has revealed that the major storyline they are a part of played a huge factor in their decision to become All Elite.
Joining the promotion in late 2023, Mariah May instantly established herself as a superfan of Toni Storm and became fascinated with the “Timeless” one. While fans knew that a betrayal was in the works from day 1, the friendship that the two developed made for entertaining viewing each week. Based on the movie All About Eve, Storm and May grew closer and closer, only strengthening with the addition of Mina Shirakawa during the build to Forbidden Door.
With May going on to win the Owen Hart Cup in July, one of the most shocking endings in Dynamite history followed as May attacked her former best friend. Leaving Storm an emotional and bloody mess to close out the show, the storyline reached its closing chapter and will likely culminate at All In when May challenges Storm for the Women’s Title.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, May stated that the major storylines were what attracted her to wrestling instead of the matches, adding that the pitch from Tony Khan was what made her decision to become All Elite that much easier:
Growing up as a wrestling fan, I was always attracted to the big storylines. You don’t really remember the matches. You just remember the moments. So I’ve always been really big on that and the reason that I chose AEW is because Tony Khan came to me with this story. So it was like, okay, I’m not just being signed to a company because she’s got a bit of momentum or anything like that. It’s like, we have a real plan for you and it was something to sink my teeth into.
I’ve got to work closely with R.J. City. He’s such a talented writer on this whole character and this whole story and then when it came to the video package, I feel that they have ideas for me and then it’s great because I can contribute my own thing and make it feel more me and yeah, but I do stab people in the head with shoes on a regular basis so it was pretty easy to pull into.
AEW All In Card Close To Being Finalised
With 9 matches announced for the event so far, the card for All In is close to being completed just over a week out from the show. With multiple storylines inevitably leading to matches being confirmed for Wembley Stadium, a new report has detailed how many matches are expected to take place at AEW All In.
