AEW Reportedly Building To “Biggest Women’s Match In Company History”

Thunder Rosa Britt Baker

A new report has revealed that AEW is planning to make the rematch between current AEW Women’s Champion Dr. Britt Baker DMD and Thunder Rosa the biggest women’s match in their history.

Baker and Rosa have met twice in the past year, their first match at AEW Dynamite: Beach Break saw Baker emerge as the winner after knocking Rosa against an exposed turnbuckle before making her pass out in the Lockjaw submission hold.

However, it was their second battle that set the wrestling world alight. The two fought in an ‘Unsanctioned Lights Out’ match which saw them use everything from chairs and ladders to thumbtacks in a bloody war which Rosa won after driving Baker through a table outside the ring with a Fire Thunder Driver. The match was hailed as one of the best women’s matches ever by fans and critics alike.

With such a positive response, it was inevitable that plans would be being made for a rematch between the pair. It has been reported in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that not only is it being planned, but AEW have hopes that it can be built as the “biggest women’s match in company history”. First, however, Baker will face Ruby Soho, who won the Casino Battle Royale at All Out for a shot at the AEW Women’s Championship by eliminating Thunder Rosa last.

“Soho won the Casino Battle Royal to build her for a title shot at Britt Baker, likely very soon, throwing out Thunder Rosa. Rosa and Baker are still set for a major match in early 2022, with everything from a cage match to a hair match having been discussed, but the idea is to build it to be the biggest women’s match in company history.”

Britt Baker saw more success than Thunder Rosa at All Out when she defeated the latest challenger for her championship, Kris Statlander with a Pittsburgh Sunrise followed by the Lockjaw to retain.
