AEW Provides Update On Tony Khan Following Assault By The Elite

AEW President Tony Khan interview in neck brace during the NFL Draft

AEW has updated fans about Tony Khan’s status following the attack by The Elite.

On the April 24th edition of Dynamite, a returning Jack Perry assaulted Khan with a brutal blow to the tummy before The Young Bucks gave him a Meltzer Driver, which left him motionless in the ring and his father dramatically concerned for his well-being.

The polarizing angle drew both praise and criticism online, especially from longtime detractors, Eric Bischoff who called it “f*cking horrible” and Jim Cornette who went on a lengthy tirade blasting the segment.

To make matters worse, the show saw a significant decline in viewership, drawing an average of 683,000 viewers on TBS, the lowest since 2021.

Undeterred by the negativity, Khan appeared during the NFL Draft sporting a neck brace leaving many fans wondering just how severe his injuries are. But they didn’t have to wait long as Tony Schiavone provided an update on Collision.

Just how bad are Tony Khan’s injuries?

During the April 27th episode of Collision, Schiavone explained:

Tony Khan has suffered multiple head and neck injuries. And I talked with him today and he tells me that he feels very blessed and very happy that he is still able to work and of course we have seen him here in Jacksonville during the NFL Draft.

However, doctors has advised Tony that he cannot travel, but he’ll be able to run AEW from here Jacksonville while we travel of course starting with Winnipeg on Wednesday night.

So, that’s good news. Tony is on the mend, but he’ll be running our company from a remote location.

Following the announcement, Nigel McGuinness questioned who would be in charge while the promotion is on the road during Khan’s absence and if anything goes array, will the EVPs – Nicholas and Matthew Jackson step up to take control?

The Winnipeg show will see Kenny Omega will make his return to television. But the former World Champion recently revealed he was just as surprised by the announcement as the fans were.

In a further update, Tony Khan will be auctioning off the neck brace for charity.
