AEW are reportedly planning to hold their first TNT special event in January.

According to a new report from Andrew Zarian of the Mat Men Podcast, AEW is set to hold its first-ever TNT special on Saturday January 8th.

Zarian notes that the special could be titled ‘Battle of the Belts,’ a throwback to a show of the same name hosted by the NWA and the CWF. (Championship Wrestling from Florida). The company are unable to use ‘Clash of the Champions’ as the name is owned by WWE.

AEW filed a trademark for “Battle of the Belts” back in September.

The report comes after it was confirmed that AEW Dynamite will be moving from TNT to TBS from January 5th. In addition to the move, it was announced that AEW will host four Saturday ‘supercard specials’ each year. While Dynamite is moving to a new home, Rampage will continue to air on TNT in its current Friday night slot.

As part of the new deal, AEW unveiled a new championship on the October 6th episode of Dynamite.

With the help of Aubrey Edwards, Tony Schiavone unveiled the new TBS Championship which will act as a second title in the AEW women’s division. It was then revealed that the first-ever champion will be crowned via a tournament. The finals of the tournament will take place on January 5th.

To date former Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida and Ruby Soho have advanced to the quarter-finals. The pair have been joined by Thunder Rosa, Jade Cargill, Nyla Rose and Kris Statlander who all received bye’s. The line up will be completed by the winners of bouts between Anna Jay and Jamie Hayter and The Bunny and Red Velvet.
