A member of the AEW roster who has been with the company since the beginning has confirmed that they will no longer be competing inside the squared circle.
On the January 18th episode of Collision, Christopher Daniels faced Adam Page in a Texas Death Match, a brutal stipulation that the former World Champion is very familiar with following his previous battles against the likes of Jon Moxley, Lance Archer and Swerve Strickland. Following a valiant effort from Daniels and a lot of bloodshed, The Fallen Angel was unable to answer the 10 count from the referee and lost to “Hangman.” After the match, Page returned to the ring and hit Daniels with the Angel’s Wings to once again put down the veteran.
Prior to the match, it was reported that Daniels was looking to wrap up his career and that the Collision match would be his final bout. Four days after his war with Page, Daniels confirmed what many had suspected.
On the January 22nd Dynamite, Page easily defeated a local competitor in a squash match. After the bell, Daniels’s music played and The Fallen Angel made his way to the top of the entrance ramp. Wearing a neckbrace, Daniels stated that following the Texas Death match he had been advised by doctors to never wrestle again and that Page won the last match he would ever wrestle.
Leaving no doubt that one more match could happen, Daniels posted a follow-up statement on social media thanking the fans:
“I’m sad that it’s over. But so very happy that it happened. Thank you all!”
Having competed in top promotions all around the world, Daniels is a former World and Tag Team Champion in ROH along with a former X-Division and Tag Team Champion in TNA among his many accolades. The Fallen Angel was one of the first singings to AEW in January 2019 and has served in onscreen and behind-the-scenes roles.
Former AEW Star Issues Emotional Thank You
Former AEW star Frankie Kazarian has been a vital part of Daniels’s career and has won Tag Team Championships alongside The Fallen Angel. Reacting to the news on social media, Kazarian posted an emotional tribute accompanied with highlights from their career:
There’s no way to articulate what @facdaniels means to me. As an opponent, a tag team partner, or most importantly as a best friend and brother. His contributions to our sport will never be realized. I love you CD. Bad Influence, The Addiction or SCU. I loved every single minute.
Speaking in an interview after the announcement, the AEW star gave more insight into his decision.
